Pune Police Seize 84kg Ganja Worth Rs42 Lakh

The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch made a significant drug bust on Thursday, apprehending two men in Chakan and confiscating 84 kilograms of ganja with an estimated street value of Rs42 lakh. The police also seized an SUV that was allegedly used to transport the contraband.

Details of the Operation

A team from the anti-narcotics cell, under the leadership of senior police inspector Mahesh Patil, arrested the suspects—Aniket Birangal (24), a resident of Chakan, and Kushal Pathak (24), from Kothrud. The arrests were made based on a tip-off provided by police constables Nikhil Varpe and Vijay Daundkar.

According to an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch, the police team noticed an SUV behaving suspiciously during routine patrolling. “They stopped the vehicle and conducted a search. Inside, they discovered 84kg of ganja. The value of the seized ganja is Rs42 lakh. Additionally, the police seized the SUV, three cellphones, and cash from the two occupants,” the officer stated.

Investigation Underway

The officer further mentioned that the police are currently investigating the source from which the duo procured the ganja. A case has been registered with the North Chakan police station, and further inquiries are ongoing.
