Rajasthan Government Unveils 'Bharat Taxi' Service
The Rajasthan government officially launched 'Bharat Taxi', a state-run ride-hailing service, with an initial fleet of 100 cabs. The service had been operating in a soft launch phase in Jaipur, during which more than 30,000 drivers registered on the platform and approximately 700,000 customers signed up, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's office.
Details of the Launch
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, speaking at the launch event, highlighted the platform's rapid adoption. 'The response from both drivers and passengers has been overwhelming. Over 30,000 drivers have joined, and around seven lakh customers have registered since the soft launch in Jaipur,' he said. The service aims to provide a reliable and affordable alternative to existing app-based taxi services like Ola and Uber.
Impact and Future Plans
The government plans to expand 'Bharat Taxi' to other cities in the state, including Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Kota, within the next few months. The platform is integrated with state schemes to ensure fair pricing and driver benefits. It also includes safety features such as GPS tracking and emergency alerts. The launch is part of the state's push for digital public infrastructure and self-reliance in mobility services.
