The Department of Labour in Mysuru district has intensified its efforts to establish residential schools for the children of construction workers at five locations. These schools, catering to students from Class 6 to 12, aim to provide quality education and holistic development opportunities.
Funding and Beneficiaries
The Karnataka State Building Construction Workers’ Welfare Board is financing the project. It is expected to benefit the children of approximately 1.6 lakh registered construction workers in the district, including masons, electricians, plumbers, painters, welders, and carpenters.
Proposed Locations
The schools are planned in the following taluks: Choranahalli (Mysuru district), Nanjangud, Periyapatna, KR Nagar, and HD Kote. Sites have already been identified at Choranahalli, Haradanahalli, and Hallada Manuganahalli. For the remaining two taluks, the department is actively searching for suitable land.
International-Standard Facilities
The labour department envisions these schools to be of international standard, equipped with fully furnished buildings, playgrounds, digital libraries, health centres, and science and computer laboratories, among other amenities.
Timeline and Next Steps
District Labour Officer Chethankumar informed the Times of India that construction will commence once all sites are finalized. The department is committed to ensuring that the schools meet high-quality standards to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.
