Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday reiterated his government's commitment to clean and green energy initiatives while urging Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) in Shimla to undertake research in green hydrogen. He was speaking during the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies for several projects on the campus.
New Academic Block and Multi-Faculty Building
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a new five-storey academic block, which will be built at a cost of Rs 8.25 crore. The structure will include parking and additional classrooms to accommodate the increasing student intake.
He also inaugurated a multi-faculty building (phase-III), constructed at a cost of Rs 10.09 crore. The building comprises three academic floors, a computer-cum-CBT lab, and parking facilities. Additionally, a newly established CBT lab was inaugurated, aimed at enhancing teaching capacity and supporting digital learning initiatives.
Government Support for University
Reviewing various schemes and projects of the university, Sukhu stated that the state government is extending all possible support to strengthen HPU, including an annual grant of Rs 150 crore. He emphasized that these initiatives will strengthen infrastructure, drive digital transformation, and promote academic excellence at the university.
