A tragic incident occurred at Ujjain railway station where a four-year-old boy, Allu, lost his life after falling into a water-filled pit dug for ropeway construction work. The child was part of a migrant-worker family that had stopped briefly at the station while traveling home from Gujarat.
Family's Journey
Allu was returning with his family of six from Ahmedabad to their native Mandav after failing to secure work in Gujarat. The family arrived at Ujjain by train on Wednesday night. Unable to find onward transportation, they halted near the goods warehouse on the station premises to prepare a meal.
While his grandfather went to fetch water and his father stepped out to buy provisions, Allu was left with his mother, Rajubai. Amid the commotion, the boy went missing.
Search and Discovery
When neither parent could locate him, the family began searching the area. His father, suspecting that the boy may have fallen into a nearby pit dug for ongoing construction, climbed in to check and found Allu submerged in the water. The child was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
GRP station in-charge Amit Bhavsar confirmed the incident, stating that the family was passing through the station when the child went missing and was later found dead in the pit. Police have conducted a postmortem examination, handed over the body to the family, and registered a case.
Safety Concerns
This incident raises serious questions about safety measures at construction sites, especially near public areas like railway stations. The pit, dug for ropeway construction, was left uncovered and filled with water, posing a danger to passersby.
Authorities are urged to ensure that such hazardous conditions are addressed to prevent future tragedies.
