Vijayawada: YSRCP MPs Maddila Gurumoorthy and Gumma Thanuja Rani met the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Justice V Ramasubramanian, seeking urgent intervention into the custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna and the suicide of P Kranthi Kumar. They alleged serious human rights violations, police excesses, and abuse of authority in both cases.
Details of the Cases
The MPs urged the Commission to take immediate cognizance of the suspicious death of Sai Krishna, who was allegedly taken into police custody before his death. The representation highlighted allegations by family members regarding custodial torture, physical abuse, denial of information about his whereabouts, and violations of constitutional safeguards. It sought an independent, impartial, and time-bound inquiry into the circumstances leading to his detention, custody, and death.
The delegation also brought to the notice of the NHRC the case of Kranthi Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide after prolonged police harassment. The representation referred to a self-recorded video purportedly made by Kranthi Kumar before his death, in which he allegedly accused Krishnalanka circle inspector Nagaraju of continuous harassment and mental torture. The MPs requested preservation and forensic examination of all digital evidence, including the viral video, mobile phone records, and other electronic material connected to the case.
Allegations Against Same Officer
The MPs informed the commission that both incidents involve allegations against the same police officer and urged the NHRC to examine whether the cases reveal a broader pattern of misconduct, abuse of authority, custodial excesses, intimidation, and human rights violations. They requested the commission to call for all relevant records, examine complaints and disciplinary history, and consider recommending an inquiry by an independent agency or a Special Investigation Team to ensure fairness, transparency, and public confidence.
