A tragic accident in Jharkhand's Latehar district claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and left 17 other children injured on Thursday. The incident occurred when an overloaded auto-rickshaw, carrying students from a school, overturned after the driver lost control.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place at Baskarcha village under Mahuadanr police station limits. According to police, the auto-rickshaw was carrying around 22 students, far exceeding its capacity. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The deceased has been identified as Ankur Minz, a Class-7 student at St Mikhail School in Latehar. Five of the critically injured students were referred to a hospital in Gumla district for advanced medical care, while the others were admitted to a community health centre in Mahuadanr.

Police Response

The driver and the vehicle owner fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend them. An officer stated that efforts are underway to locate the absconding individuals.
