A night of tragedy unfolded in Karnataka's Chitradurga district as two separate road accidents claimed the lives of six individuals on Saturday. The incidents, occurring in different taluks, have left families devastated and renewed concerns over road safety on key highways.
Head-On Collision Claims Four Young Lives in Hiriyur
In a devastating incident near Hindasakatte village in Hiriyur taluk, four young men were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck. The accident took place on the Bidar-Srirangapatna state highway, an area notoriously known for being accident-prone.
The victims have been identified as Vishwanath (22), Nanjundi (23), Rahul (23), and Yashwant (22). All four were residents of Nanjayyanakote village within Hiriyur taluk. Following the crash, their bodies were transported to the Hiriyur Government Hospital for postmortem procedures.

Second Crash Near Tamatakallu Bridge Kills Two
In a separate and equally tragic accident, an Innova car travelling from Maharashtra towards Bengaluru collided with a truck. This crash occurred near the bridge at Tamatakallu village in Chitradurga.
The impact proved fatal for two occupants of the car, who died on the spot. Three other individuals sustained injuries in the collision. The deceased have been named as Kamala Haribabu (65), who was the mother of Kolhapur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vaishnavi, and the car's driver, Rakesh (40).
DSP Vaishnavi herself was travelling with her family and was among the injured. She was admitted to a private hospital in Chitradurga for treatment. The other injured persons were shifted to the Chitradurga District Hospital. Preliminary reports from the police indicate that the family was returning to their home in Kolhapur after a trip to Tamil Nadu.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigations
CPI Balachandra Naik of the Chitradurga Rural police station visited the site of the Tamatakallu accident. Following standard procedure, a case has been registered in connection with this incident as well.
These back-to-back tragedies on a single night have cast a spotlight on the safety conditions of roads in the region. The loss of six lives, including four young men and an elderly woman, has sent shockwaves through the local communities and beyond. Investigations by the respective police stations are ongoing to determine the exact causes of both accidents.
