The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized the Karnataka government for failing to conduct a downstream impact study for the Yettinahole river diversion project. The party questioned the silence of BJP leaders on the matter, which involves the diversion of water from the Nethravathi River.
AAP Raises Concerns
In a statement released on Thursday, AAP leaders expressed serious concerns about the potential environmental and social consequences of the project. They argued that without a proper downstream impact assessment, the project could harm the ecology of the region and affect the livelihoods of communities dependent on the river.
Questioning BJP Leaders
AAP specifically called out BJP leaders for not speaking up on the issue, despite the party being in power in the state. The party demanded transparency and accountability in the execution of the Yettinahole project.
The Yettinahole project, aimed at diverting water from the Nethravathi River to meet drinking water needs in drought-prone areas, has been a contentious issue in Karnataka. Environmentalists and local groups have long raised concerns about its impact on the river's ecosystem.
As of now, the Karnataka government has not responded to AAP's allegations. The project continues to move forward, with officials maintaining that all necessary studies have been conducted.
