Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu, labeling it the "most corrupt in the country" and vowing to end its "dynastic rule." He made these remarks at the valedictory event of BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran's statewide rally in Pudukkottai on Sunday.
Shah's Direct Attack on Stalin's 'Dream'
In a direct address to Chief Minister M K Stalin, Amit Shah asserted that the DMK leader's ambition to see his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, become the chief minister would remain an unfulfilled dream. "Stalin wants to make Udhayanidhi chief minister. But Stalin Babu, I want to tell you — this dream will never come true," Shah declared. He emphasized that the time has come to put an end to dynastic politics in Tamil Nadu, a change he claimed would materialize when the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comes to power in the state.
Allegations of Corruption and Anti-Hindu Policies
The senior BJP leader accused the DMK government of being synonymous with corruption, alleging that almost every DMK leader has been named in one scam or another. He also charged the state administration with undermining Hindu values and constitutional rights.
"The Constitutional rights of Hindus are being snatched away. Sanatana dharma was equated with dengue and malaria by DMK netas. Hindu processions are not allowed. Even immersing idols in water bodies is restricted," Shah claimed during his speech. He countered the DMK's narrative of the BJP being anti-Tamil by highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts for the state, including the appointment of C P Radhakrishnan, a native of Tamil Nadu, as the Vice-President.
Confidence in NDA and Analysis of Past Elections
Expressing strong confidence in the BJP-AIADMK alliance, which he termed a 'natural alliance,' Shah stated that the NDA would remove the DMK government "at all cost" and form the government. He provided a retrospective analysis of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, suggesting the outcome would have been drastically different had the two parties contested together.
"If our vote shares are to be combined, we would have won 36 seats," Shah said, referring to the separate contests in 2024. He pointed out that the parties had fought together successfully in 1998, 2019, and the 2021 assembly polls. Shah added that 2024 and 2025 have been victorious years for the BJP in several states, and this trend would be repeated in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Earlier at the event, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran stated that his campaign revealed voters' disillusionment with the DMK government. He also blamed former minister Senthil Balaji for the Karur stampede that occurred during actor-politician Vijay's TVK rally. The event was attended by senior leaders including TN election in-charge and Union Minister Piyush Goyal, L Murugan, former state president K Annamalai, and other state-level functionaries. Following the public address, Amit Shah chaired a core committee meeting with state functionaries in Trichy.
