AP Medical Council Election Records 55 Percent Voter Turnout
The Andhra Pradesh Medical Council election, held on Monday, witnessed a significant participation from the medical community, with a total of 30,773 doctors exercising their franchise. This figure represents a 55 percent voter turnout from the total electorate of 56,156 registered medical practitioners eligible to vote in this crucial poll.
E-Voting Process and Extended Polling Hours
The polling was conducted entirely through an e-voting system, a modern approach aimed at facilitating a smooth and efficient electoral process. As per the originally announced schedule, voting was set to commence at 8 am and conclude at 5 pm. However, due to a combination of factors including a heavy voter turnout and some technical issues encountered during the process, the polling time was extended by three hours. This extension, which pushed the closing time to 8 pm, was implemented following specific requests from doctors who faced difficulties in casting their votes within the initial timeframe.
Counting and Results Announcement
Returning Officer and Director of Secondary Health, Chakradhar Babu, confirmed that the counting process would be completed promptly. He stated that the election results are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, ensuring a swift conclusion to the electoral proceedings. The council's executive committee will be formed based on these results, which are eagerly awaited by the medical fraternity.
Significance of the Election and Candidate Details
This election holds particular importance as it marks the first such poll in nearly 20 years, ending a long hiatus in the electoral process for the State medical council. A total of 84 doctors are contesting for the 13 available positions on the Executive Committee. The high number of candidates reflects the competitive nature of this election and the keen interest within the medical community to participate in the council's governance.
The successful conduct of this election, despite the challenges, underscores the commitment to democratic processes within the medical sector and sets a precedent for future engagements.
