Army Rejects Claims of Chinese Encroachment in Arunachal

The Indian Army on Monday rejected claims that China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) has established military camps and infrastructure deep inside Indian territory in the Taksing circle of Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh. The Army stated that the reports were "incorrect and without any basis."

Allegations by Community Organisation

The allegations were made by the NAH Welfare Society (NWS), a registered organisation based in Taksing, in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri. The letter, dated June 26 and signed by NWS president Keru Chader, claimed that the PLA had occupied several areas traditionally used by local communities and built roads, bridges, and military camps over the past five years.

The NWS identified five locations — Oying (2445) in the Asaphila area, Paniar in Chujarta, Marpan (Marnafe), Potrang Lake, and Tindingtang — as areas allegedly under Chinese occupation. According to the NWS, these sites were "firmly within Indian territory" before 2020, with some holding religious significance as sacred pilgrimage sites in the Tsari region.

Army's Response

The Army issued a statement in response to media reports, saying, "We have seen some media reports alleging recent encroachment by the Chinese PLA and the setting up of camps in Arunachal Pradesh. These reports are incorrect and without any basis." The statement did not provide further details but firmly dismissed the allegations.

Concerns Raised by NWS

In the letter, Chader wrote, "We are losing our land inch by inch day by day to them. The intention and speed of the present activities of the Chinese PLA in the Taksing area are very alarming and a matter of grave concern for us." The organisation urged the administration to take immediate action to verify the claims and protect the region's territorial integrity.

Context of Border Tensions

The Taksing area is located in the remote Upper Subansiri district, near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. The region has seen periodic tensions, with both countries maintaining a strong military presence. The Indian Army's swift rejection of the claims comes amidst ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability along the border.
