In a significant move for devotees, the Wadiyar family has permitted parking at the Shashiranjan Grounds in Mysuru for the upcoming Ashada Friday. This decision marks a change from the long-standing practice since 2011, when parking was provided on the Lalitha Mahal Helipad land, which is owned by the erstwhile royal family.
Background of Parking Arrangements
Since 2011, during the holy month of Ashada, devotees visiting the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple on Fridays were allowed to park their vehicles on the Lalitha Mahal Helipad land. This arrangement was facilitated by the Wadiyar family, who own the property. However, for the current Ashada season, the parking location has been shifted to the Shashiranjan Grounds.
Reasons for the Change
The decision to relocate the parking facility was made to better manage the increasing number of devotees and ensure smoother traffic flow in the area. The Shashiranjan Grounds offer more space and better accessibility for vehicles, reducing congestion near the temple premises.
Officials from the Mysuru City Corporation and the traffic police have welcomed the move, stating that it will help in organizing the large crowds expected during the Ashada Fridays. The new parking lot is expected to accommodate a higher number of vehicles compared to the previous site.
Impact on Devotees
Devotees have expressed mixed reactions to the change. While some appreciate the larger parking area, others are concerned about the distance from the temple. However, the authorities have assured that shuttle services will be arranged to transport devotees from the parking ground to the temple.
The Wadiyar family has reiterated their commitment to supporting religious activities in the region. This gesture is seen as part of their ongoing efforts to preserve cultural traditions and assist the community during important festivals.
Future Plans
Discussions are underway to make the parking arrangement permanent for future Ashada months. The Shashiranjan Grounds may also be developed with better facilities, including lighting, signage, and security, to ensure a safe and convenient experience for all visitors.
This development underscores the collaborative efforts between the royal family and local authorities to enhance the pilgrimage experience while maintaining the sanctity of the religious event.
