Bengaluru Metro Enhances Yellow Line Service with Faster Trains and Digital Passes

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced significant upgrades to its Yellow Line services. Starting January 15, commuters will experience more frequent trains during peak hours.

Improved Peak-Hour Frequency

From Monday to Saturday, trains on the Yellow Line will now run every 10 minutes during peak hours. This marks a reduction from the previous 13-minute intervals. The change aims to alleviate crowding and make travel smoother for daily passengers.

On Sundays, peak-hour services will also see a slight improvement. Train frequency will increase from every 15 minutes to every 14 minutes.

BMRCL confirmed that the first and last train timings from RV Road and Bommasandra terminal stations will remain unchanged. The corporation is introducing its seventh train into passenger service to support this enhanced schedule.

New Mobile-Based Unlimited Travel Passes

In a parallel development, BMRCL is launching digital unlimited travel passes. Available from January 15, these passes use QR codes and can be purchased through the official Namma Metro app.

The passes come in three durations:

  • One-day pass: Rs 250
  • Three-day pass: Rs 550
  • Five-day pass: Rs 850

Commuters can scan the QR code on their mobile phones at the automatic fare collection gates for both entry and exit. This system eliminates the need for the Rs 50 refundable security deposit previously associated with contactless smart cards.

BMRCL expects this initiative to reduce queues and enhance overall convenience for metro users. The move towards digital ticketing reflects a broader trend in urban transportation.
