BJP Leader Demands CBI Probe into Sabarimala Gold Scam, Alleges Conspiracy
In a bold political move, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has publicly challenged Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to refer the investigation into the high-profile Sabarimala gold scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The demand was made during a 'Meet The Press' event held in Kochi on Thursday, where Chandrasekhar was accompanied by Twenty20 chief coordinator Sabu Jacob.
Allegations of Sabotage and Weak Investigation
Chandrasekhar did not mince words, alleging a deliberate conspiracy to undermine the investigation and weaken the case. "If the CM has even an iota of shame and sincerity, he should hand over the probe to CBI," he declared emphatically. He criticized the current investigation led by the state's Special Investigation Team (SIT), arguing that it lacks independence.
"How can there be an independent probe by the state police when ministers and people from outside the state are involved?" Chandrasekhar questioned, highlighting the potential conflicts of interest. He pointed out that the court's reliance on documents provided by the SIT, rather than conducting its own independent probe, further compromises the integrity of the investigation.
Response to High Court's Satisfaction
When reminded that the Kerala High Court had expressed satisfaction with the SIT's investigation, Chandrasekhar remained unconvinced. "If the CM has nothing to hide, why not refer the case to an independent agency?" he retorted, suggesting that transparency demands a CBI-led inquiry to ensure impartiality and public trust.
Defending Union Budget Provisions for Kerala
Shifting focus to broader political issues, Chandrasekhar dismissed allegations from the CPM and UDF that Kerala was ignored in the recent Union Budget. He provided concrete figures to counter these claims, noting a 38% increase in tax devolution to the state and a more than 100% rise in grants-in-aid, which now totals Rs 26,500 crore. "These provisions clearly demonstrate the central government's commitment to Kerala's development," he asserted.
Twenty20's Electoral Stance and Ideological Focus
Meanwhile, Sabu Jacob, when questioned about Twenty20's prospects in the upcoming assembly elections, offered a philosophical perspective. "It doesn't matter if Twenty20 does not win any seats at all," he stated. "What matters more is that the ideology of development that Twenty20 and NDA share should flourish and reach our voters." This comment underscores a strategic emphasis on ideological propagation over mere electoral victories, aligning with broader coalition goals.
