BJP Secures Numbers to Form Chandrapur Municipal Corporation Administration
Amidst emerging reports of an internal dispute within the Congress party over the Chandrapur mayoral position, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has confidently declared that it has successfully assembled the necessary numerical strength to establish the ruling body of the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC). According to reliable political sources, the BJP has concluded critical negotiations with smaller political factions, which is anticipated to facilitate the appointment of its candidate, Sangita Khandekar, to the prestigious mayor's office.
Negotiations Finalized for Power-Sharing Agreement
Senior BJP leader and former minister Sudhir Mungantiwar revealed that a comprehensive announcement detailing the post-sharing arrangements and specific terms of support from allied parties is scheduled for Monday. Mungantiwar exercised caution when addressing inquiries about the Shiv Sena (UBT) potentially laying claim to the mayor's post, emphasizing that the negotiations are confidential and that public commentary would violate established political decorum.
While he refrained from explicitly naming the allies involved, it is widely understood that only the Shiv Sena (UBT)–Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) coalition, which commands the support of 10 corporators, possesses the capacity to assist the BJP in achieving a majority within the CMC. Mungantiwar informed reporters that discussions with potential allies had reached a conclusive phase, enabling the party to surpass the "magic figure" required to govern the civic body effectively.
Stable Administration and Upcoming Election Preparations
The former minister expressed strong optimism that the finalized agreements would guarantee a stable municipal administration and ensure the seamless execution of the impending mayoral election. He further disclosed that a written agreement to formalize these arrangements is expected to be signed imminently by BJP rural district president Harish Sharma. As per the party's strategic blueprint, the general body meeting set for February 10 is projected to witness the formal endorsement from all parties engaged in the negotiations.
Under the emerging power-sharing framework, certain pivotal positions within the municipal structure are likely to be allocated among the supporting allies. Mungantiwar confirmed that extensive consultations have already been conducted with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP state president Ravindra Chavan, with all preparations for the mayoral election now fully complete. He also noted that he had deliberated on funding mechanisms and development priorities for Chandrapur with the Chief Minister, who provided assurances of comprehensive administrative backing.
Congress-Aligned Parties Not Currently Supporting BJP
In response to additional queries, Mungantiwar mentioned that some political entities previously aligned with the Congress, including the Bharatiya Shetkari Kamgar Paksh, had been approached for potential collaboration. However, he clarified that these parties are presently not in a position to offer direct support to the BJP, highlighting the complex and dynamic nature of local political alliances in Chandrapur.
