In a tragic incident, two-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from the Faridpur constituency, Shyam Bihari Lal, passed away on Friday after suffering a cardiac arrest. The 60-year-old MLA was attending a meeting at the Bareilly circuit house when the medical emergency occurred.

Sudden Collapse During Official Meeting

The meeting was chaired by Uttar Pradesh's Animal Husbandry Minister, Dharampal Singh, and was focused on matters related to the SIR (Special Investment Region). During the discussions, Lal suddenly complained of severe chest pain and discomfort. Officials present at the venue immediately arranged for medical assistance.

He was rushed to a nearby private hospital in Bareilly. Medical professionals at the hospital performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for nearly an hour in a desperate attempt to revive him. Despite their persistent efforts, his condition did not improve, and he was declared dead.

A Scholar and Public Servant

Shyam Bihari Lal was not only a political figure but also an academic. He served as a professor of History at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly. Remarkably, he had celebrated his 60th birthday just a day before his untimely demise, on Thursday.

His political career was marked by his dedication to the Faridpur constituency, which he represented as a BJP MLA twice. He was known as a soft-spoken and committed leader who balanced his academic and legislative responsibilities.

Condolences Pour In

The news of his sudden death sent shockwaves through the political and academic circles of Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. In a post on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister expressed deep sadness over the sudden passing of the MLA and extended his sympathies to the family members.

Shyam Bihari Lal is survived by his wife, Manjulata, two daughters, and a son. The family, along with his constituents and colleagues, is mourning the loss of a beloved figure.
