BJP Relocates Nashik Corporators to Undisclosed Site Before Mayoral Election
In a strategic move ahead of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) leadership elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) city unit has transferred all 72 of its newly elected corporators to a secret location outside Nashik. The corporators are expected to be returned to the NMC headquarters on Friday morning for the crucial voting to elect the mayor and deputy mayor.
Orientation and Briefing Sessions Conducted
Party city unit chief Sunil Kedar confirmed that the corporators were taken on a one-day excursion outside the city, where they received detailed briefings on the procedural aspects of the mayor's election. This relocation follows an introductory meeting held earlier on Thursday morning at the BJP office, marking the start of a series of orientation sessions designed to prepare the newly elected members for their roles.
Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan led the first orientation session in the evening. Kedar elaborated, stating, "It was essential for the new corporators, even though some senior members were already familiar with the process. The whip was issued, and all related legalities were explained." This comprehensive briefing aimed to ensure all members are well-versed in election protocols and party directives.
BJP Nominates Candidates and Asserts Majority
The BJP has officially nominated Himgauri Aher for the position of mayor and Machchhindra Sanap for deputy mayor. A senior party functionary expressed confidence, noting, "Regardless of circumstances, both posts will go to BJP since we have 72 members. The standing committee chairperson will also be from our party. Other committees will be decided soon." With a clear majority, the party anticipates securing these key leadership roles without opposition.
Emphasizing their independent stance, the functionary added that since the BJP contested the election autonomously, there is no intention to share power with other political parties. However, the party remains committed to collaborating with corporators across political lines to foster the city's development and address civic issues effectively.
This relocation strategy underscores the BJP's meticulous planning to maintain unity and discipline among its members, ensuring a smooth electoral process for the NMC's top positions. The move highlights the party's focus on organizational strength and preparedness as they navigate the municipal governance landscape in Nashik.
