The incident occurred in the arrival terminal, where both parties had gathered in large numbers to receive their respective leaders.

According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began with a heated exchange of words between the two groups, which quickly escalated into physical violence. Chairs were thrown, and several people were seen pushing and shoving each other. The situation was brought under control after the intervention of airport security personnel and local police.
Political rivalry on display
The clash highlights the intense political rivalry between the BJP and TMC in West Bengal. Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was returning from a political rally. BJP supporters had gathered to protest against the TMC government's policies, while TMC supporters were present to welcome their leader.
