In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana, state BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Saturday positioned his party as a credible alternative to the ruling Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Rao made these remarks during a press conference in Hyderabad, where he outlined the BJP's ambitious electoral strategy for the urban local body polls.
BJP's Comprehensive Electoral Strategy
Rao revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party has entered the electoral fray across all 116 municipalities and six municipal corporations in Telangana. This extensive participation covers a total of 2,996 wards and divisions throughout the state. The party has already issued B-forms to its candidates, signaling its readiness for the upcoming contests.
The BJP leader emphasized that voters in Telangana have shown increasing trust in his party during recent elections, including MLA, MLC, MP, and even sarpanch polls. This growing confidence, according to Rao, positions the BJP as a viable alternative to the established political forces in the state.
Criticism of Ruling Parties
Ramchander Rao launched a sharp critique against both the Congress and BRS, accusing them of following similar paths that have harmed public trust. "Both BRS and Congress are following the same path, continuing past scams and misusing the trust of the people," he stated during the press conference.
The BJP president highlighted what he described as administrative collapse in municipalities over the past few years. He claimed that development had come to a standstill, with basic facilities not being provided in urban local bodies across Telangana. This criticism forms a central part of the BJP's campaign narrative as it seeks to gain ground in the municipal elections.
Focus on Layout Regularisation Scheme
A key issue Rao addressed was the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS), which he said caused significant distress to millions of people during its implementation under the previous BRS government. The BJP leader made several demands regarding this scheme:
- Completion of the LRS process within 15 days
- Cancellation and refund of fees collected under the scheme
- Resolution of all pending cases related to LRS
- Free implementation of the scheme to ensure justice
Rao specifically emphasized that these measures would particularly benefit poor and middle-class families who have been affected by the LRS implementation. This focus on urban development issues and regularization schemes represents a strategic attempt by the BJP to connect with voters concerned about civic infrastructure and property rights.
The BJP's comprehensive approach to the municipal elections, combined with its criticism of the ruling parties and focus on specific urban issues, sets the stage for what promises to be a closely contested series of local body polls across Telangana.
