The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is set to hold a series of workers' conventions across Uttar Pradesh Assembly constituencies beginning next week, as it intensifies preparations for the upcoming state elections. The first convention is scheduled for June 22 in the Ayodhya Assembly constituency, followed by a program on June 23 in Akbarpur, located in the Ambedkarnagar district. A similar gathering will subsequently take place in the Azamgarh Assembly constituency, according to party leaders.
Mobilizing Cadres at Booth and Sector Levels
BSP state president Vishwanath Pal stated that these conventions are designed to mobilize party workers at the booth and sector levels, signaling that the party has entered election mode. Senior leaders, including Pal and constituency in-charges appointed by the party, will attend the meetings. In several constituencies, the in-charges are likely to be the party's candidates, making the conventions an opportunity to formally introduce them to voters.
Pal expressed confidence in the turnout, saying, “We are expecting a crowd of at least 25,000 to 30,000 workers in Ayodhya and Akbarpur.” He added that while organizational meetings have been ongoing for some time, the presence of senior leaders will lend greater significance to the upcoming conventions.
Consolidating Vote Base and Expanding Reach
A party insider revealed that these meetings are intended to convey that instructions from the leadership must be implemented with focus and determination on the ground. BSP national president Mayawati has repeatedly emphasized in internal meetings the need to consolidate the party's existing vote base in Uttar Pradesh and expand it further. Leaders believe that energizing local workers is central to this strategy, and the upcoming conventions are being positioned as a key step toward achieving that goal.
The BSP's efforts come amid a broader political landscape in Uttar Pradesh, where multiple parties are gearing up for the state elections. The conventions are expected to boost morale among party workers and reinforce the party's organizational structure ahead of the polls.
