In a decisive move against unlawful excavation, the mining department in Buxar district carried out a surprise inspection this Sunday, resulting in the confiscation of a truck involved in illegal soil mining and transportation. The operation was conducted in the area under the Nawanagar police station.
Surprise Raid Uncovers License Violations
The officials acted on specific intelligence and intercepted the vehicle during the raid. District Mining Officer Amit Kumar stated that the subsequent investigation confirmed the truck was engaged in mining and moving soil without holding a valid license or the mandatory e-challan. This activity constitutes a clear breach of the state's Mining Act and its associated Rules.
"Strict legal action has been initiated against both the owner of the vehicle and its driver," Kumar emphasized. An First Information Report (FIR) has been formally registered against the duo following the seizure.
Heavy Financial Penalties Imposed
In line with the prevailing regulations, the authorities have levied a substantial compounding fee of Rs 8 lakh on the impounded truck. Furthermore, a separate financial penalty has been imposed, calculated to be 25 times the royalty amount for the soil that was illegally extracted and transported.
Officials clarified that such stringent measures are essential to deter illegal mining activities, which not only cause environmental degradation but also lead to significant losses in government revenue.
Zero-Tolerance Policy and Continued Vigilance
The district administration has reiterated its firm "zero tolerance" stance concerning the illegal mining, storage, and transportation of minerals. Amit Kumar added that continuous monitoring is being carried out across Buxar district, and any future violations will be met with severe consequences.
These consequences include:
- Immediate seizure of vehicles involved.
- Registration of FIRs against offenders.
- Heavy monetary fines and penalties.
The administration has also issued an advisory to all contractors, vehicle owners, and drivers associated with the mining sector. They have been instructed to operate strictly with valid licenses and e-challans. Kumar warned that similar enforcement drives will persist in the future to clamp down on those who flout the rules.
