Congress Intensifies Campaign for Nizamabad Municipal Corporation Elections
Hyderabad: In a strategic push ahead of the crucial urban local body polls, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has called upon Congress party workers and contesting candidates to amplify their grassroots outreach across Nizamabad. The objective is clear: to wrest control of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation from rival parties and bring it back under the Congress umbrella.
Setting Ambitious Targets for February 11 Polls
Addressing a gathering of party cadre and candidates in Nizamabad on Sunday, Uttam Kumar Reddy revealed that internal surveys indicate a strong public desire for change. He confidently projected that the Congress could secure victory in 40 out of the 60 divisions within the civic body, a feat that would also pave the way for capturing the mayor's post. "The feedback from the ground is encouraging. People are looking for a new direction," he stated, urging workers to connect with every single voter and consolidate support throughout the city.
Strategic Importance of Nizamabad for Congress
As the minister in charge of all urban local bodies within the Nizamabad parliamentary constituency, Reddy emphasized the high stakes of the February 11 elections. He described the polls as among the most prestigious for the Congress party in Telangana, especially given Nizamabad's status as the state's third-largest city. The outcome is seen as directly linked to the city's potential to benefit from the Congress government's statewide urban infrastructure development initiatives.
"A strengthened Congress position in the municipal corporation will elevate Nizamabad to the next level of development," Reddy told the assembled workers, framing the election as a pivotal moment for the city's future progress.
Analyzing Electoral Trends and Past Performance
The Congress campaign in Nizamabad is being spearheaded jointly by Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B Mahesh Kumar Goud. Reddy provided a detailed analysis of recent electoral patterns to motivate the cadre:
- In the 2023 assembly elections, the BJP clinched the Nizamabad Urban seat, while Congress demonstrated a notable improvement in its vote share.
- The 2025 parliamentary polls saw the BJP retaining the Lok Sabha constituency, yet Congress gained significant momentum.
- Historically, in previous municipal elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) held the mayoral position, with the BJP and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) establishing strong local footholds, while Congress was largely marginalized.
Focus on Community Outreach and Development Promises
Reddy outlined a comprehensive strategy for the party, setting an ambitious goal of winning all 60 divisions and securing the mayor's chair. He instructed the cadre to specifically focus on engaging with Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and minority communities. The campaign message will highlight the perceived failures of the BJP in developing the city's civic infrastructure and the declining influence of BRS, while positioning Congress as the party committed to inclusive development and progress.
"Our promise is one of development and inclusivity. We will address the gaps left by others and ensure Nizamabad gets the attention it deserves," Reddy asserted, rallying the workers to project Congress as the viable alternative for the city's governance.
