CPM MLA Madhusoodhanan Firmly Denies Allegations of Fund Misuse
In his first public statement addressing the serious allegations made by expelled Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader V Kunhikrishnan, Payyannur MLA T I Madhusoodhanan has delivered a robust defense of the party's financial integrity. Speaking at a reception for the Vikasana Munnetta Yatra in Vellur, which happens to be Kunhikrishnan's hometown, Madhusoodhanan categorically asserted that communists would never even consider misappropriating a martyr's fund or diverting a single paisa for personal gain.
Defending the Party's Honor and the Martyr's Family
Madhusoodhanan emphasized that the family of slain CPM worker C V Dhanraj is considered the party's own family. He addressed the growing questions about the Dhanraj martyr fund, specifically regarding the total amount collected, the expenditure on constructing a house for the family, and the overall utilization of the funds. "Does anyone think CPM would insult the family by making such details public?" he questioned rhetorically, highlighting the party's respect for the family's privacy and dignity.
The MLA pointed out that these allegations have surfaced at a critical juncture, coinciding with the ongoing trial of the Dhanraj case at the Taliparamba sessions court. "What are these attempts meant to whitewash? Whom are they trying to help? Is this an effort to weaken the case before the court considers it?" Madhusoodhanan queried, suggesting a possible ulterior motive behind the timing of the accusations.
Rejecting Broader Allegations and Affirming Party Discipline
Madhusoodhanan further dismissed claims of irregularities in other financial matters, including the collection of funds for election purposes and for the construction of the party's area committee office. He stressed that the CPM is not an organization where any individual can impose diktats or control the party at will, underscoring its collective and democratic structure.
To bolster his defense, the MLA recounted an emotional moment during one of the receptions for the march, where Dhanraj's wife personally stepped forward to welcome the procession. She reportedly urged him to move ahead with determination, a gesture Madhusoodhanan interpreted as a show of support and trust from the martyr's family.
Background of the Controversy and Counter Initiatives
The allegations stem from Kunhikrishnan's expulsion from the CPM after he leveled charges of irregularities and misappropriation involving multiple funds. These include the Dhanraj martyr fund, the 2021 assembly election fund collected in Payyannur, and the area committee office construction fund. Kunhikrishnan recently released a book titled 'Nethruthwathe Anigal Thiruthanam' (Followers Should Correct the Leadership) in Payyannur, which likely elaborates on his criticisms.
In a related development, a fund-raising campaign has been launched under the aegis of Jagratha Payyannur. This initiative aims to purchase a new motorcycle for Prasannan, a supporter of Kunhikrishnan, whose bike was allegedly set on fire on January 26 for backing the expelled leader. This move highlights the ongoing tensions and divisions within the local political landscape following the expulsion.
As the controversy unfolds, Madhusoodhanan's firm rebuttal sets the stage for a heated political debate in Kozhikode, with implications for the CPM's internal dynamics and public perception ahead of crucial legal proceedings.
