The local unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a protest march in Rohtak on Tuesday evening, highlighting rising prices and pressing civic problems. The march started at Chhotu Ram Park and ended at Gohana Adda.
Civic Grievances Highlighted
Jagmati Sangwan, CPM in-charge for Rohtak city, stated that the city faces an acute shortage of drinking water, overflowing sewers, heaps of garbage along roadsides, and clogged drains. She warned that these issues are especially critical as the monsoon season approaches.
Demand for Fuel Price Reduction
Sangwan also criticized the continuous rise in petrol, diesel, and cooking gas prices, which she said is making it difficult for ordinary people to manage household expenses. She argued that since crude oil prices have fallen internationally, domestic fuel prices should be reduced accordingly. She added that rising petrol prices lead to higher costs for fruits, vegetables, and everyday items.
Farmers' Concerns
Senior party leader Inderjit Singh pointed out that farmers are facing increasing difficulties due to shortages of fertilisers and irrigation water. He accused the government of showing little concern for the people's suffering, claiming it is working with imperialist forces to serve corporate interests.
Deteriorating Law and Order
Singh also noted a decline in law and order, with frequent thefts, chain-snatchings, and purse-snatchings becoming common. He added that pollution levels are rising daily.
Future Plans
District secretary Satbir Singh announced that the party will organize public hearings in various localities. Party workers will collaborate with residents to identify grievances and formulate charters of demands. Sustained movements and campaigns will be launched based on these consultations.
