Major Fire Engulfs Four Scrap Shops in Mysuru, No Casualties Reported
A significant fire erupted at four scrap shops located on the outskirts of Mysuru in the early hours of Monday morning, leading to a rapid and extensive response from the local fire department. Authorities have confirmed that no casualties occurred as a result of the blaze, and there were no residential structures in the immediate vicinity, preventing any harm to residents.
Location and Materials Involved
The affected shops were situated off Old Kesare Road, near the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway. These establishments had stored a variety of used materials, including plastic items, foam, and wooden waste, both inside their premises and in outdoor areas. The presence of these flammable substances contributed to the intensity of the fire, causing thick smoke to billow into the air and temporarily disrupt vehicular movement in the surrounding area.
Firefighting Response and Operations
District Fire Officer K C Ramesh reported that the fire department received an emergency call around 4:30 AM, prompting the immediate dispatch of firefighting teams to the scene. A total of three fire tenders, which included two bowser vehicles, along with 25 personnel, were deployed to combat the flames. Firefighters worked tirelessly, utilizing water from the bowser tenders to douse the burning scrap materials and control the spread of the fire.
Even after the main flames were extinguished, the crews continued their operations by scattering and turning over the waste to eliminate any hidden embers. Fire officials emphasized that this step was crucial, as scrap heaps can retain heat and potentially reignite if not cooled thoroughly. The entire firefighting operation lasted nearly five hours, with teams remaining on-site to complete the cooling process and ensure there were no flare-ups.

A police officer stated that the cause of the fire is not immediately known and will require further investigation. A comprehensive assessment of the damage and potential causes will be carried out once the area is declared safe by authorities. The incident highlights the importance of proper storage and safety measures for scrap materials to prevent such hazardous situations in the future.
