Daltonganj: A fire broke out early Friday morning in the vegetable market here, destroying goods belonging to two vendors. Crates of gourds, lemons, and other produce were reduced to ashes. No casualties were reported, according to district fire officer Albert Tigga.
One of the affected vendors, Nasim Raiyin, alleged that the fire was not accidental but a deliberate act. “The fire was purely man-made to settle an old score,” Raiyin claimed, adding that the dispute revolves around the occupancy of two shops—his and that of another vendor, Avinash.
Fire officer Tigga said a fire tender with a 4,500-litre capacity was rushed to the spot and managed to contain and control the blaze within half an hour. The fire did not spread to adjacent shops or buildings.
Daltonganj town police station officer Jyoti Lal Rajwar said no complaint had been received so far in connection with the fire.
