GSRTC Expands Transport Network for Mahashivratri Fair in Gujarat
In a major logistical enhancement for the upcoming Mahashivratri fair, the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has announced the addition of 195 new buses to facilitate pilgrim movement. This initiative will see the operation of over 7,800 trips to Bhavnath in Junagadh district, ensuring robust connectivity for the anticipated influx of devotees.
Detailed Bus Deployment Strategy
According to an official statement, the bus deployment is strategically planned to optimize travel from various regions. Specifically, 80 additional buses will be introduced to shuttle between Junagadh bus station and Bhavnath, while 115 new buses will connect from other districts across Gujarat directly to the fair site. This comprehensive approach aims to reduce congestion and provide seamless access for attendees.
Inauguration and Key Events
The annual Mahashivratri Fair at Bhavnath, nestled in the foothills of Girnar in Gujarat's Junagadh, is set to commence formally on Wednesday with the traditional hoisting of the flag at the Bhavnath temple. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi will preside over the inaugural procession, marking the beginning of this significant religious gathering. The opening day will also feature a ceremonial entry of sadhus and saints in his presence, adding a spiritual dimension to the festivities.
Extensive Administrative Preparations
The five-day religious event, which draws thousands of devotees, sadhus, and tourists annually, will be conducted under extensive administrative arrangements. These measures are designed to ensure orderly conduct and provide adequate facilities for all pilgrims. The fair is a cornerstone of Shaivite traditions, characterized by the participation of ascetics and saints from various akhadas across India, highlighting its cultural and religious importance.
Coordinated Efforts and New Additions
Preparations for the fair have been meticulously undertaken by the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board in close coordination with the district administration, under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. Notably, this year's program includes a first-time 'Damru Yatra', reflecting the spiritual and cultural traditions associated with Lord Shiva. This procession is scheduled for February 11, starting at 7 pm from the Bhavnath entrance gate and proceeding along a nearly 400-metre route to the Bhavnath temple.

To enrich the visitor experience, the local administration has made provisions for a variety of amenities. These include cultural programmes and a light-and-sound show, aimed at celebrating the heritage of the event.
