Opposition Leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda Launches Scathing Attack on BJP Government in Haryana
In a sharp critique of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party administration, Leader of Opposition in Haryana assembly Bhupinder Singh Hooda declared on Friday that opposition parties and citizens hold no expectations from the current government's budget. The senior Congress leader asserted that during its eleven-year tenure, the BJP dispensation has accomplished little beyond dramatically escalating the state's financial liabilities.
Mounting Debt and Economic Deterioration
Addressing media representatives in Karnal, Hooda painted a grim picture of Haryana's fiscal health, stating that the economic situation is worsening progressively each day. He highlighted alarming statistics, revealing that the state's debt burden stood at merely Rs 60,000 crore until 2014 but has now ballooned to approximately Rs 5.25 lakh crore under BJP governance.
"Where has this enormous borrowed money been utilized?" questioned the former Chief Minister. "The public is well aware of the answer. These funds have been squandered by the BJP in various scams, misusing the hard-earned resources of ordinary people. Fresh scandals emerge regularly under this administration, with the recent paddy scam being the latest illustration. Rather than targeting major culprits, the government is attempting to bury the issue by penalizing junior staff members."
SYL Canal Implementation Failure
When queried about the longstanding Satluj-Yamuna Link canal dispute, Hooda emphasized that the Supreme Court has ruled in Haryana's favor, making it the joint responsibility of both central and state governments to execute the verdict. He expressed frustration that despite BJP controlling governments at both levels, Haryana continues to be deprived of its legitimate water allocation.
"We have consistently urged the government to initiate contempt proceedings against the Punjab government in the Supreme Court," Hooda stated. "Instead of taking decisive legal action, the administration is merely engaging in endless discussions and meetings. This clearly indicates that the BJP has no genuine intention of securing Haryana's rightful water share."
Allegations of Ration Card Scam
The Congress leader further accused the BJP of orchestrating a massive ration card manipulation scheme to influence electoral outcomes. He claimed that millions of fraudulent ration cards were generated to garner votes during elections, with over 14 lakh such cards being annulled post-elections.
"This is not merely a ration distribution scandal; it represents a fundamental betrayal of public trust and democratic mandate," Hooda alleged, underscoring what he described as systematic malpractice by the ruling party.
Hooda's comprehensive indictment comes amid growing political tensions in Haryana, with opposition forces intensifying their criticism of the BJP government's governance record across multiple sectors including finance, water resources, and social welfare schemes.
