Jaipur Braces for Major Infrastructure Announcements in Upcoming State Budget
With elections for the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on the horizon, officials from various departments are anticipating a substantial package of development projects for the state capital in the 2026-27 budget. Finance Minister Diya Kumari is widely expected to unveil a comprehensive slate of initiatives aimed at transforming Jaipur's urban landscape.
Metro Expansion Takes Center Stage
Budget proposals are likely to feature significant announcements regarding the proposed Jaipur Metro Line 2 and several other metro alignments. Metro authorities are preparing to lay the foundation stone for these projects in March 2026, prompting expectations for increased fund allocation in the next fiscal year.
"The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has completed feasibility studies for three to four new alignments," revealed a senior official. "The government is expected to allocate budget for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for at least one of these routes."
Planned extensions include stretching the proposed Line 1D from Mansarovar to 200-Feet Bypass toward Ajmer Road and the newly constructed Heerapura bus stand. Additionally, feasibility reports have been conducted for multiple alignments focusing on the historic Walled City area.
Traffic Infrastructure Overhaul
Officials indicate that traffic management will receive considerable attention, with emphasis on creating signal-free crossings at some of Jaipur's busiest intersections. The budget is expected to include announcements for:
- Two to three new elevated roads
- Future Road Over Bridges (RoBs) and Road Under Bridges (RuBs)
- Projects related to Jhalana Bypass for JLN Marg
- Infrastructure improvements around Sikar Road
These measures aim to alleviate chronic congestion and improve mobility across the growing metropolitan area.
Water Supply Reinforcement
With the Water Resources Department targeting 2028 for commissioning the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) is seeking to strengthen Jaipur's existing Bisalpur water supply system. Officials suggest the budget may include funding for laying a second Bisalpur pipeline to enhance capacity and reliability.
"The Detailed Project Reports for the strengthening works are complete," explained an official. "We require funds to initiate construction activities and ensure water security before ERCP becomes operational."
The anticipated budget allocations reflect a strategic approach to urban development, addressing transportation, water infrastructure, and traffic management simultaneously. As Jaipur prepares for municipal elections, these proposed projects could significantly influence the city's growth trajectory and quality of life for its residents.
