Jasdeep Singh Khanna elected president of Nabha MC

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Jasdeep Singh Khanna has been elected as the president of the Nabha Municipal Council (MC), receiving broad support from opposition parties. The election, conducted by Returning Officer and SDM APS Somal, also saw Harpreet Singh elected as senior vice-president and Kamal Kumar Raju as vice-president of the civic body.

Cross-party support for AAP candidates

Of the 23 councillors present during the election, 22 voted in favour of the proposed candidates. Notably, councillors from both the Congress party and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) extended their support to the AAP candidates. The only dissenting voice came from the lone Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor, Yadvinder Singh Yadu, who objected to Khanna's election as president. However, Yadu supported the nominations for the senior vice-president and vice-president positions.

According to the official election procedure, Congress councillor Ashok Garg proposed Khanna's name for the president's post, while SAD councillor Gursewak Singh seconded the proposal. This cross-party backing highlights a rare unity among political rivals in the local body.
