Karnataka Energy Minister K J George Denies Resignation Rumors Amid Allegations of Interference

Karnataka Energy Minister K J George has categorically denied reports claiming he threatened to resign over alleged interference in his department by MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The speculations, which created a significant buzz in political circles on Thursday, were dismissed by George as completely false and unfounded.

Clarification in the Legislative Assembly

Prompted by these reports, George addressed the issue in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, stating that the claims were far from the truth. The controversy began when BJP MLA V Sunil Kumar referenced media reports during the Assembly session, questioning George's position. "TV media is reporting that George has resigned due to interference by CM's son. He is in the Assembly. Let him clarify," Kumar said.

George was quick to respond, asking whether he had issued any statements to TV channels and emphasizing that the question of his resignation does not arise. He further expressed his full confidence in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, reinforcing his commitment to his role.

Background of the Allegations

The reports had suggested that George's discontent stemmed from two key incidents:

  • A notice issued to Pankaj Kumar Pandey, the managing director of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
  • The transfer of some officials in Chikkamagaluru district, where George serves as the in-charge minister.

Additionally, it was contended that A S Ponnanna, the Legal Advisor to the Chief Minister, had mediated a truce to resolve the matter. However, both George and Ponnanna have refuted these claims.

Minister's Detailed Denial

Speaking to reporters after the Assembly session, George questioned the basis of the allegations, asking whether he had ever made any accusations of interference. "Transfer of officials is routine. Can I keep track of every transfer?" he remarked, clarifying that he did not seek the transfer of any officials and that such administrative moves are part of normal governance.

On the allegations involving Yathindra Siddaramaiah, George firmly denied any interference in his department and expressed concern over dragging the CM's son into disrepute. "Why are you bringing him into disrepute?" he asked, highlighting the lack of evidence for such claims.

Legal Advisor's Response

A S Ponnanna, responding to media queries, provided further clarity on the situation. He confirmed that while a notice was issued to Pankaj Kumar Pandey by the chief secretary, the issue was resolved promptly after Pandey's response. Regarding the alleged mediation of a truce, Ponnanna stated that since the reports of George's resignation were false, "the claims of a truce are also false."

This incident underscores the volatile nature of political rumors in Karnataka and the importance of official clarifications to maintain transparency and trust in governance. George's strong denial and support for the Chief Minister aim to quell any speculation and ensure stability within the state's energy department.
