Kochi Opposition Slams Ruling Front's 50-Day Plan as 'Political Gimmick'
Opposition councillors in Kochi corporation have launched a sharp critique against the ruling front's recently announced 50-day action plan. They accuse corporation authorities of deceiving city residents by presenting the plan as a fresh initiative.
Repackaged Projects and Ongoing Activities
Corporation LDF parliamentary party leader V A Sreejith stated that many projects showcased as new are actually those initiated during the last council term. He emphasized that these are activities which need to be continued rather than being announced as novel achievements.
"The newly announced Indira canteen aims to undermine Samridhi Janakeeya Hotel and the Kudumbashree movement," Sreejith alleged. He pointed out that declaring routine activities like mosquito control, fogging, dry day observance, and ABC for stray dog control as part of the action plan represents a political gimmick by Congress.
Such activities, according to Sreejith, fall under the responsibility of successive administrations and are already ongoing. He stressed that the new headquarters building was completed with determination by the LDF administration. Future activities, he noted, should be the responsibility of the new committee.
Digital Services and Infrastructure Claims
Sreejith highlighted that the LDF administration made various services available online through K-Smart. He alleged that the newly announced single-window system contains ambiguities. "One should not forget the futile attempts to bring services online and the money wasted during UDF's tenure," he added.
The previous committee began work to transform the road from Goshree Junction to BTH into a model modern road. Sreejith claimed that almost all projects announced as part of the 50-day action plan were already completed by LDF.
Completed Projects and Previous Initiatives
Construction of an incinerator for waste processing, declared as part of the action plan, was also completed. The BPCL plant in Brahmapuram is already complete. A windrow compost plant was a project proposed by the last council.
The adalat, another project in the 50-day plan, was initiated by the previous committee. A mobile food testing lab was introduced by the LDF administration. The SC-ST hostel was inaugurated by the last council.
LDF administration successfully implemented several projects including:
- Physiotherapy centres
- Model Buds schools
- Public toilets in areas including Fort Kochi
- 33 wellness centres
- Beautification projects like I Love Kochi to make the city waste-free
Opposition councillors argue that presenting these completed or ongoing works as new achievements in a 50-day plan misleads the public and wastes administrative focus.
