Midday Meal Worker Injured by Collapsed AIADMK Digital Banner in Chennai

A midday meal scheme employee sustained injuries after a digital banner erected for an AIADMK public meeting collapsed on her at MGR Nagar in Chennai on Friday. The incident occurred during preparations for a meeting to mark the 109th birth anniversary of the late chief minister M G Ramachandran.

Details of the Incident

Police reported that arrangements for the public meeting, which was to be addressed by AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, had been made by former MLA Virugai V N Ravi. Several party banners were installed along roads in MGR Nagar and K K Nagar, with a large digital banner placed near the venue for live broadcast purposes.

When a vehicle transporting chairs for the meeting passed by, it brushed against the digital banner, causing the structure to collapse. The fallen banner struck a woman identified as Kavitha, aged 40, who was walking towards the market to purchase vegetables. Kavitha works as a midday meal assistant at a government school.

Immediate Response and Medical Condition

AIADMK workers present at the location promptly removed the collapsed banner. Kavitha was immediately taken to K K Nagar Government Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is stable following the incident.

This event highlights ongoing concerns about public safety during political gatherings and the installation of temporary structures in urban areas. Authorities are likely to review safety protocols for such events to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
