Mohali MC Clears Rs 28-Cr Projects, Focus on Waste Management & Water Supply
Mohali MC approves Rs 28 crore in development works

The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) has given a significant push to the city's infrastructure and civic services, approving financial sanctions for projects worth crores of rupees. In a major decision, the civic body's Finance and Contract Committee has cleared work orders and new project estimates totaling approximately Rs 28 crore.

Major Financial Approvals for Civic Works

Chairing a meeting of the committee on Thursday, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu announced the approvals. The committee sanctioned work orders worth around Rs 22.22 crore for a wide spectrum of development activities. Additionally, it cleared fresh development estimates amounting to roughly Rs 6 crore, which will pave the way for new projects and the issuance of tenders in the near future.

Mayor Sidhu, briefing the media after the meeting, stated that the approvals are centered on enhancing basic civic amenities and ensuring superior service delivery to all residents of Mohali. He emphasized that strengthening core infrastructure and uplifting the quality of civic services are the top priorities for the administration. A majority of the approved works are slated for completion by March 31, 2026.

Focus on Sanitation and Essential Services

A substantial part of the sanctioned budget is dedicated to solid waste management initiatives. This focus aims to bolster the city's sanitation framework and work towards a cleaner urban environment. Alongside this, the committee has approved crucial projects for the repair and augmentation of water supply and sewerage systems. These projects are designed to guarantee uninterrupted services in residential neighborhoods, industrial zones, and villages under the MC's jurisdiction.

One of the key infrastructure projects that received the green light is the construction of an underground storage reservoir (UGSR) in the Industrial Area of Phases 8A and 8B. With an estimated cost of Rs 1.35 crore, this reservoir is expected to significantly improve water supply in that industrial belt.

Comprehensive Development Across Sectors

The committee's approvals extend beyond sanitation and water. A holistic development plan includes works related to road repairs and strengthening, which are critical for smooth transportation. The development of green belts is also on the agenda, aiming to enhance the city's aesthetics and environmental health.

Furthermore, the plan encompasses the upgradation of various public facilities to improve the quality of life for citizens. This includes:

  • Libraries
  • Parks
  • Open gyms
  • Sheds at RMC (Ready Mix Concrete) points
  • Repair and maintenance of street lights

To ensure the municipal corporation functions smoothly, the committee also approved proposals for machinery repair and manpower outsourcing. These steps are intended to maintain operational efficiency in carrying out the newly approved development works.

This wave of approvals signifies a concerted effort by the Mohali Municipal Corporation to address fundamental civic issues while also planning for sustainable urban growth. The focus on waste management and water infrastructure underscores a commitment to public health and essential services, setting a timeline for tangible improvements in the city's landscape and livability.
