Mumbai's civic administration has taken a major step ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election. Officials distributed voter information slips to approximately 85 lakh voters across the city on Tuesday. This proactive move comes just before polling day on January 15.
Massive Distribution Effort Underway
The Solid Waste Management Department carried out this extensive exercise through door-to-door visits. Their teams covered all civic wards in Mumbai. A total of 6,701 personnel participated in this massive distribution drive.
The workforce included civic staff members, representatives from voluntary organizations, ASHA workers, and Booth Level Officers. They worked together to ensure slips reached voters' homes directly.
What Voter Slips Contain
These important slips contain essential details for every voter. The information includes the voter's full name and complete address. Each slip also shows the serial number from the electoral roll.
Voters will find their ward number clearly printed. The document specifies the exact polling station name and room number. This comprehensive information helps citizens locate their voting centers easily.
Remaining Slips Available at Polling Stations
Officials confirmed that about 15 lakh voter slips remain undelivered. These will be made available directly at polling stations on voting day. Voters who haven't received their slips can collect them when they come to vote.
The entire exercise follows strict directions from the State Election Commission. The commission wants to streamline the voting process across Mumbai. Their goal is to make polling as smooth and efficient as possible.
Cleanliness Drive at Polling Centers
Alongside slip distribution, the civic body launched a large-scale cleanliness initiative. They focused on all 10,231 polling stations throughout Mumbai. The Solid Waste Management Department took charge of this important task.
Authorities provided more than 4,000 toilet facilities for public use. These include both portable units and mobile toilet vans. The facilities will serve voters and polling staff throughout election day.
Special cleanliness drives are scheduled for January 14 and 15. Additional sanitation workers will join regular staff during this period. Their combined efforts will ensure proper hygiene at every voting center.
Officials Urge High Voter Turnout
Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Joshi made a strong appeal to Mumbai's citizens. She encouraged voters to participate in large numbers during the BMC election.
"Voting represents a crucial part of our democratic process," Joshi emphasized. "Citizens should make full use of the facilities we have provided. This will ensure smooth and orderly polling across our city."
The civic administration hopes these preparations will boost voter participation. They want every eligible Mumbaikar to exercise their franchise without difficulties.
