Patna witnessed significant administrative activity on Saturday as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted a detailed inspection of several ongoing infrastructure projects that were announced during his ambitious 'Pragati Yatra' initiative. The CM's review focused on critical urban development works aimed at enhancing connectivity and addressing drainage issues in the state capital.
Nehru Path Widening and Drainage Project
During the inspection, officials from the Road Construction Department (RCD) provided comprehensive briefings to the Chief Minister about the progress of various works. One of the primary projects reviewed involved the substantial widening and strengthening of a 2.70-kilometer stretch of Nehru Path, accompanied by the construction of extensive underground drainage systems on both sides of this important thoroughfare.
An RCD official elaborated on Saturday, "This crucial infrastructure project encompasses both the expansion and reinforcement of Nehru Path, along with implementing sophisticated underground drainage networks to manage water flow effectively."
Historical Significance and Modern Importance
The nearly 10-kilometer-long Nehru Path, commonly known as Bailey Road, holds both historical and contemporary significance for Patna's transportation network. Originally named Bayley Road after Sir Charles Stuart Bayley, the first Lieutenant Governor of Bihar and Orissa, this arterial road serves as a vital connector between Dak Bungalow Chauraha and Saguna Mor near Danapur.
This strategic roadway functions as a primary transportation corridor within the state capital, facilitating movement across different sectors of the city and supporting economic activities through improved connectivity.
Connectivity Enhancement Projects
Following his assessment of the Nehru Path widening work, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accompanied by Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, proceeded to review the connectivity enhancement project linking the Digha-AIIMS Patali Path to Nehru Path near Rupsapur Canal Road.
RCD officials further briefed the CM about the comprehensive connectivity plan designed to integrate Pataliputra Railway Station with both Nehru Path and Ashok Rajpath, creating a more seamless transportation network across key locations in Patna.
Beautification Initiatives Along JP Ganga Path
The Chief Minister's inspection tour extended to the beautification work currently underway on JP Ganga Path near Digha Golambar. During this segment of the review, Nitish Kumar issued specific instructions to officials, emphasizing the importance of completing all works properly within the established timelines.
"Once these infrastructure projects reach completion, vehicular movement will become significantly smoother and more convenient for citizens. People will experience substantial relief from persistent traffic congestion problems," the Chief Minister stated during his inspection.
Administrative Presence and Oversight
The inspection witnessed the presence of several senior administrative officials who accompanied the Chief Minister throughout the review process. Notable attendees included the CM's Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, RCD Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary to the CM Chandrashekhar Singh, and District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M, along with other senior officials from relevant departments.
This high-level administrative participation underscores the government's commitment to monitoring infrastructure development closely and ensuring timely execution of projects that directly impact urban mobility and quality of life for Patna's residents.
