Patna Transport Commissioner Sets Strict Deadline for DTOs
District transport officers in Patna face a firm deadline. They must clear all pending driving licence and vehicle registration certificate cases by January 31. Failure to meet this target will result in disciplinary action.
Review Meeting Highlights Citizen Services
State transport commissioner Arif Ahsan conducted a review meeting with DTOs via videoconference on Tuesday. He emphasized the critical nature of timely service delivery. Ahsan stated that issuing DLs, RCs, permits, and processing claims directly impacts ordinary citizens. These services cannot face unnecessary delays.
The commissioner specifically instructed officials to prioritize cases pending for over six months. He called for a focused effort to eliminate the backlog completely by the month's end.
Road Safety Measures Get Top Priority
Commissioner Ahsan issued clear directives for enhanced road safety enforcement. He mandated daily checks for helmet and seatbelt compliance across all districts. These checks should run alongside ongoing public awareness campaigns.
"The state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards traffic rule violations," Ahsan declared. He ordered strict legal action against all offenders. He reminded everyone that helmets and seatbelts are proven life-saving devices. Their use dramatically reduces serious injuries and deaths in road accidents.
Ahsan also focused on infrastructure improvements. He instructed DTOs to install mirrors and proper signage at dangerous locations. These include sharp turns, blind spots, curves, and accident-prone areas. He highlighted T-junctions and curves on major highways as particularly hazardous. Reflective tape on dividers and at intersections was also recommended to improve visibility.
Dealer-Level Backlog Addressed
During the meeting, officials revealed a significant issue. Many vehicle registration cases are stuck at the dealer or agency level, not with the transport department itself.
Commissioner Ahsan responded with a stern order. He directed district authorities to hold immediate meetings with the concerned agencies. Their goal is to clear this external backlog swiftly. The commissioner issued a strong warning. Agencies failing to resolve pending cases within the given timeframe risk severe consequences. Their dealer or showroom login IDs could face cancellation.
The message from the transport department is unequivocal. Efficiency and road safety are non-negotiable priorities for Patna. All officials and associated agencies must now work towards the January 31 deadline with full commitment.
