A tragic hit-and-run incident late on Tuesday night claimed the life of a police constable in Assam's Hailakandi district. The victim has been identified as Sebak Dutta, a resident of the Rongpur area in Silchar. Dutta was serving with the Border Branch of the Sribhumi district police at the time of the accident.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident occurred on the Panchgram–Dhaleswar bypass in Panchgram. According to preliminary police reports, a speeding Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) allegedly rammed into the motorcycle Dutta was riding. The impact was so severe that it flung him off the bike, resulting in his instantaneous death. The driver of the SUV did not stop to help and fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Sources indicate that Constable Dutta was on his way back home to Silchar from his workplace in Sribhumi when the tragedy struck. Upon receiving information, local police rushed to the spot. They recovered the damaged motorcycle and sent Dutta's body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Investigation and Search for the Vehicle

Investigators have confirmed that the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run is yet to be identified. A manhunt is currently underway to trace the SUV.
