Pune: Civic Poll Loser's Family Attacks Cousins Over Alleged Vote Split
Four members of a family in Pune assaulted their cousins on Friday afternoon. The attack happened in Bhawani Peth around 1:30 PM. The victims immediately filed a complaint with the Khadak police station.
Police Register Case Against Accused
Police registered a formal case against the four accused. The charges include house trespass, intentional insult, and causing hurt. Senior Inspector Shashikant Chavan of Khadak police provided details about the incident.
The violence erupted after civic election results became clear. The brother of the four accused lost the election by 3,500 votes. Their cousin from the victim's family received 2,500 votes in the same election.
Alleged Vote Splitting Sparked the Conflict
The accused family believed those 2,500 votes were crucial. They thought these votes could have changed the election outcome for their brother. This belief led to the violent confrontation.
"The picture of the contest became clear around 1:30 PM," said Senior Inspector Chavan. "Soon after, the accused reached the victim family's house and abused them."
Both cousins actually lost the elections. However, the four accused decided to teach their relatives a lesson. They claimed the victim's campaigning caused their candidate's defeat.
Family Feud Turns Violent
The incident highlights how election tensions can spill into family conflicts. Police are investigating the matter thoroughly. The victims received medical attention for their injuries.
Local residents expressed shock over the violence. Many noted that election disputes should not lead to physical attacks. The police have assured proper action against the perpetrators.
This case serves as a reminder about maintaining peace during democratic processes. Authorities urge citizens to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than violence.
