In a significant push to bolster water infrastructure in the state, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday issued clear directives to officials to accelerate and complete all ongoing irrigation and development schemes within their stipulated deadlines. The CM chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Water Resources Department at the Chief Minister's Office in Jaipur.
Focus on Timely Completion and Monitoring
Chief Minister Sharma emphasized the critical need for regular monitoring to ensure projects do not face delays. He reiterated his government's unwavering commitment to securing an uninterrupted water supply for both the general public and the farming community across Rajasthan. The administration has taken pivotal decisions aimed at developing water sources, enhancing storage capacity, and fortifying the overall water management system in the state.
Ramjal Setu Link Project: A Cornerstone Initiative
A major highlight of the review was the Ram Jal Setu Link Project. CM Sharma underscored its crucial role in providing a reliable water supply to a vast population. He instructed the concerned officials to execute each phase of this ambitious project responsibly, adhering strictly to the laid-out implementation plan.
During the meeting, officials presented a detailed progress report. They informed that under the project, work related to the coffer dams and drainage channels at the Ramgarh Barrage and Mahlpur Barrage has already been completed.
Massive Investment in Water Infrastructure
The officials detailed the scale of the ongoing works. Currently, three major projects with a total cost of approximately ₹9,400 crore are in progress. These include:
- Construction of an aqueduct on the Chambal River.
- Development of feeder links from Neemuchana/Mej to Galwa.
- Development of feeder links from Galwa to Isarda–Bisalpur.
In a move that signals a massive expansion of the state's water grid, the department plans to soon initiate five additional components worth about ₹14,600 crore. These proposed links are:
- From Bisalpur to Mor Sagar in Ajmer district.
- From Isarda to Bandh Baretha in Bharatpur district.
- From Isarda to Ramgarh in Jaipur district.
- From Khura Chainpura to Jaisamand in Alwar district.
- The Brahmani Barrage project.
A Vision for Water Security
The combined financial outlay of the ongoing and soon-to-be-initiated projects stands at a staggering ₹24,000 crore, reflecting the state government's serious intent to address water scarcity. CM Sharma's proactive review and insistence on deadlines highlight a governance approach focused on tangible outcomes and efficient resource management for Rajasthan's sustainable development.
