Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has intensified his attack on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after Shinde described the ongoing unrest within the Uddhav Thackeray camp as merely a 'trailer'. Raut called Shinde a dishonest leader and compared him with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, accusing both of betraying the parties that elevated them politically.
Background of the Feud
The remarks come amid speculation that six Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MPs may defect to the Shinde-led faction, reviving memories of the 2022 rebellion that split the Shiv Sena and altered Maharashtra's political landscape. Raut's comments were a direct response to Shinde's dismissive 'trailer' remark, which downplayed the internal strife within the Thackeray faction.
Raut's Accusations
Raut did not mince words, stating that Shinde's leadership is built on deception. He drew parallels between Shinde and Suvendu Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress leader who joined the BJP, alleging that both are opportunists who switched sides for personal gain. 'A dishonest leader like Shinde cannot be trusted,' Raut said during a press conference.
Political Implications
The potential defection of six Lok Sabha MPs could significantly weaken the Uddhav Thackeray faction, which has been struggling to maintain its political relevance since the split. The Shinde faction, backed by the BJP, has been aggressively courting discontented Sena members. Political analysts suggest that this could further consolidate the BJP's position in Maharashtra ahead of upcoming elections.
Raut's attack underscores the deepening rift between the two Shiv Sena factions, with each side accusing the other of betrayal and opportunism. The ongoing turmoil is reminiscent of the 2022 rebellion that led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government and the formation of a new coalition under Shinde's leadership.
