The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday submitted a written complaint to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), demanding the registration of an FIR against Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments.
Video surfaces on social media
The complaint comes days after a video surfaced on social media, allegedly showing Mann disrespecting the Gurus. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Mann have rejected the allegation so far, terming the clip “fake”.
The complaint was handed over by an SGPC delegation to Special DGP AS Rai at his office.
SGPC alleges blasphemous acts
In the complaint, the SGPC said Mann was seen committing “blasphemous acts” in the video. The SGPC alleged that Mann, along with state officials, “conspired to prepare a fake forensic report” of the video to suppress the issue. The delegation said an FIR had already been registered in this regard at a Gurugram police station.
Demands impartial probe
The SGPC also sought an impartial investigation into the matter. The apex gurdwara panel said this was necessary to uphold the dignity of Sikh religious sentiments and the rule of law.
After submitting the complaint, SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mann told the media that in the general house meeting of the gurdwara panel on June 27, a unanimous resolution was passed authorising the internal committee to take legal action in this matter.
