Shiv Sena MLAs' DCCB Nominations Reinstated

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The nominations of Abdul Sameer, son of Shiv Sena MLA Abdul Sattar, and Sena MLA Sanjana Jadhav for the District Central Cooperative Bank (DCCB) election have been reinstated by joint registrar of cooperative societies Santosh Bidwai, allowing both to stay in the fray. Jadhav is the daughter of former five-time BJP MP Raosaheb Danve.

The development comes just days after Abdul Sattar met deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai and publicly alleged that Shiv Sena was being treated unfairly within the ruling alliance ahead of the legislative council elections.

Sameer’s nomination was earlier rejected on the grounds that he earned rental income from land he owned on which the district bank building stood. Authorities had argued that this constituted a financial benefit, rendering him ineligible for the poll. During the appeal hearing, however, it was contended that the law referred to holding a “post of profit,” and rental income did not qualify as a “post.” Accepting this argument, Bidwai set aside the earlier decision and validated his nomination.

Similarly, MLA Jadhav’s candidacy had been rejected on the grounds that she had not completed two years as a member. In her appeal, Jadhav produced documents showing that a resolution admitting her as a member had been passed in 2022, along with receipts for the Rs 100 membership fee paid at the time. Her appeal was subsequently accepted.

The ruling is being seen as a shift in the political dynamics surrounding the DCCB election. BJP leaders and Mahayuti allies had reportedly rallied behind a panel that excluded the Sattar camp, with guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat and minister Atul Save playing key roles in the process.

Meanwhile, an appeal filed by Indumati Dongaonkar was rejected. The earlier disqualification of Sameer Sattar had been viewed as a major setback for Abdul Sattar, who had accused BJP leaders of meting out step-motherly treatment to the Shiv Sena. With the nomination now restored following his engagement with senior leaders, political circles are abuzz over the timing and implications of the administrative decision.
