Foundation Day Celebrated at Shivamogga Zoo-Cum-Safari
The zoo-cum-safari in Shivamogga marked its Foundation Day on Friday, with officials recounting the institution's journey. Speaking at the event, a senior official noted that tigers were introduced to the safari in later years, enhancing its appeal.
Relocation from Gandhi Park to Tyavarekoppa
The zoo originally operated at Gandhi Park in Shivamogga city. However, in 1996, it was relocated to Tyavarekoppa after the Central Zoo Authority of India (CZA) denied permission to continue operations at the earlier site, citing non-compliance with prescribed standards.
Impact of CZA Standards
The relocation ensured the zoo met CZA requirements, leading to improved animal habitats and visitor facilities. The Foundation Day celebration acknowledged the efforts of staff and the support from the local community in transforming the facility.
