Kolkata Influencer Sona Pappu Denies Role in Golpark Clash in Facebook Live Session
In a dramatic turn of events, Kolkata's controversial figure Sona Pappu, whose real name is Biswajit Poddar, remains at large two days after the violent incident at Golpark. However, on Tuesday, Pappu broke his silence by going live on Facebook, vehemently asserting his innocence and challenging his accusers.
Pappu's Live Defense and Religious Alibi
During the Facebook live stream, Pappu was seen inside a car, explaining that he reluctantly took to social media due to incessant calls about the alleged trouble since Sunday. He claimed he was observing a religious ceremony at home on the night of the incident, with his home's CCTV footage supposedly capturing his presence. "How could I have been involved if I was at home?" he questioned, daring the police and those accusing him of orchestrating the clash at Kankulia that left two individuals injured.
Police Crackdown and Arrests Intensify
Meanwhile, Kolkata police have ramped up their investigation, arresting seven more people overnight, including prime suspect Rahul Das alias Babusona (40), who is described as Pappu's closest aide. Joint Commissioner of Police Rupesh Kumar (crime & traffic) stated, "We arrested seven more people overnight in connection with the incident, including prime suspect Babusona. The arrests were based on credible source information and CCTV footage analysis." This brings the total number of arrests to 17, with the latest being Chanchal Naskar alias Sonu, 20, a close associate of Pappu's rival Bapi Halder.
Pappu's Political Comparisons and Financial Defense
Addressing a photo of him with the arrested Babusona, Pappu argued that mere association does not imply guilt. He drew comparisons to high-profile figures, mentioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, suggesting they are not held accountable for others' actions. Furthermore, Pappu criticized Adhikari, who allegedly accused him of disrupting rallies, by claiming Adhikari's party has no presence in south Kolkata.
In a bid to defend his reputation, Pappu also highlighted his financial standing, citing his family's gold business to assert that he is a legitimate businessman, not involved in illicit activities. The police have not officially commented on his live video, but sources indicate investigators are aware of it and are likely to scrutinize his claims as the probe continues.
