Sreerampur 2026: Triangular contest among TMC, BJP, Congress

The 2026 West Bengal assembly election in Sreerampur (constituency no. 186), also known as Serampore, is set to witness a triangular contest among the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Indian National Congress. The TMC has fielded a new candidate, Tanmoy Ghosh, while the BJP has nominated Bhaskar Bhattacharya and the Congress has fielded Subhankar Sarkar.

Constituency Details

Sreerampur is located in the Hooghly district and forms part of the Sreerampur Lok Sabha segment. The constituency includes parts of the historic Serampore municipality, Rishra municipality, and adjoining gram panchayats. Serampore holds considerable historical significance as a former Danish colonial settlement and an early centre of Christian missionary activity in Bengal, including the famous Serampore College founded in 1818.

Previous Election Results

In the 2021 assembly election, TMC candidate Sudipta Roy retained the seat by defeating BJP's Kabir Sankar Bose with a margin of over 23,000 votes. In 2016, Sudipto Roy of the TMC also won, defeating Congress's Subhankar Sarkar. The seat has been firmly in TMC hands since 2011.
