Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Reaffirms Commitment to Protect Hindu Temple Properties
In a significant announcement at the International Vallalar Conference held in Chennai on Sunday, Chief Minister M K Stalin reiterated the DMK government's unwavering commitment to safeguarding Hindu temple properties across Tamil Nadu. The conference, organized by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, served as a platform for the CM to highlight the administration's proactive measures in this domain.
Massive Retrieval of Temple Lands from Encroachers
Stalin revealed that the state government has successfully retrieved a staggering 8,106 acres of temple lands from encroachers. The estimated value of these reclaimed properties stands at an impressive ₹8,400 crore. This achievement underscores the government's dedication to preserving religious assets and ensuring they are utilized for their intended purposes.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister detailed extensive renovation works carried out in approximately 12,000 temples throughout the state. These restoration efforts have been executed at a substantial cost of ₹8,100 crore, reflecting the administration's commitment to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure of places of worship.
Upholding Vallalar's Humanitarian Philosophy
During his address, Stalin emphasized that the DMK government is steadfastly upholding the humanitarian philosophy of saint Vallalar. He charged that while the government adheres to these principles, there are divisive forces actively attempting to distort Vallalar's teachings for their own agendas.
"The state would firmly uphold Vallalar's message of equality and compassion through governance," Stalin declared, asserting that efforts to paint a different picture of Tamil society's cultural identity would not succeed.
Vallalar as Inspiration for the Dravidian Movement
The Chief Minister elaborated on Vallalar's profound influence, stating that the saint is one of the key inspirations for the Dravidian movement. "Vallalar's teachings rejected caste, religious discrimination, and social divisions. These principles formed the ideological foundation of the Dravidian movement and the welfare-oriented Dravidian model government," Stalin explained.
He connected this philosophical foundation to the DMK government's contemporary welfare initiatives. Programs such as the breakfast scheme in schools and various social support schemes for the poor and elderly are direct reflections of Vallalar's vision to eradicate hunger and alleviate suffering in society.
New Announcements and Future Initiatives
Stalin made seven significant announcements during the conference, demonstrating the government's ongoing commitment to cultural and educational development. One of the key announcements includes the construction of a memorial pillar at the Kanchipuram Arulmigu Ekambaranathar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, where the conference was held.
This initiative aims to honor Vallalar's legacy and ensure that future generations remain connected to these foundational principles of equality and compassion.
The Chief Minister's comprehensive address at the International Vallalar Conference not only highlighted tangible achievements in temple protection and renovation but also reinforced the ideological alignment between Vallalar's teachings and the DMK government's governance model. By retrieving valuable temple lands and investing in religious infrastructure, while simultaneously promoting humanitarian values, the administration seeks to balance practical governance with philosophical integrity.
