Chief Minister M K Stalin Inaugurates Memorial Hall for Former Madras Presidency Leader
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin officially inaugurated a significant new multipurpose hall constructed in memory of the former Chief Minister of the Madras Presidency, Dr P Subbarayan, on Friday. The inauguration ceremony was conducted through video conferencing from Chennai, with the physical event taking place at Navani Thotakkurpatty village in Namakkal district.
Details of the Memorial Hall and Inauguration
The newly constructed hall, built at a cost of Rs 3.06 crore, stands as a tribute to Dr P Subbarayan's contributions. A prominent feature of the hall is a bust of the former leader, symbolizing his enduring legacy. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Dr M Mathivendan, Rajya Sabha MP K R N Rajesh Kumar, Namakkal MP V S Matheswaran, and MLA P Ramalingam, who were present at the memorial hall during the ceremony.
Government's Commitment to Honoring Leaders
In his address to the gathering, Minister Mathivendan emphasized the state government's dedication to honoring both living and deceased leaders. He stated that this initiative aims to add pride to their work and ensure their achievements are conveyed to future generations. Mathivendan highlighted that the DMK government has erected more than 60 statues and built 11 memorial halls across Tamil Nadu over the past five years, underscoring a consistent effort to preserve historical legacies.
"Dr P Subbarayan memorial hall is unveiled to add pride to Namakkal district," Mathivendan remarked, reinforcing the local significance of the project.
Fulfillment of a Long-Standing Demand
MP Rajesh Kumar noted that a memorial hall for Dr P Subbarayan in his native district had been a long-standing demand among the local community. "It has been fulfilled during the tenure of our Chief Minister," he said, acknowledging the role of the current administration in addressing this request. Additionally, Kumar mentioned that Namakkal MLA P Ramalingam contributed Rs 40 lakh from the constituency development fund to support the construction of the hall, demonstrating collaborative efforts in realizing the project.
Honoring the Legacy and Family
The inauguration ceremony also included a special moment where Minister Mathivendan honored Mohan Kumaramangalam, a successor of Dr P Subbarayan, by presenting him with a shawl. This gesture served to recognize the ongoing connection and respect for the leader's family and heritage, further enriching the memorial's purpose.
