CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday expressed solidarity with the global Tamil diaspora on the occasion of Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day. May 18, 2009, marked the end of the Sri Lankan civil war in Mullivaikkal, a small coastal village in Mullaitivu district, following the death of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Chief Minister's Pledge
Vijay pledged his government's continued support to Lankan Tamils for their rights. In a social media post, he wrote: "Let us hold the memories of Mullivaikkal in our hearts." The chief minister emphasized the state's commitment to the welfare and rights of Tamil communities across the globe, particularly those affected by the conflict.
Amma Unavagam Revamp Ordered
In a separate development, the chief minister has ordered the revamp and renovation of Amma Unavagams across the state following complaints over the quality and taste of food served at the subsidized eateries. He directed officials to upgrade infrastructure facilities at the canteens, immediately procure necessary cooking equipment, and ensure an uninterrupted supply of hygienic food to the public. The initiative aims to restore public trust in these essential services and improve the overall dining experience for residents.
The government has allocated funds for the swift implementation of these upgrades, with a focus on modernizing kitchen equipment and enhancing food preparation standards. Officials have been tasked with conducting regular inspections to maintain quality and hygiene.
